More than 70 cats are in danger!
Cats are currently living in the Kyiv Zoo in the capital of Ukraine. They are semi feral. Before 2010 they were cruelly killed by administration of the Zoo in order to regulate they numbers. But afterwards activists managed to stop that. They made a temporary place of living for a Zoo cats vaccinated, neutered and fed by volunteers. Our “Nature First” NGO gather donations to feed them using social networks (Vk, FB).
Now Zoo cats are under new danger due to a plans of reconstruction of the enclosures where they live. Temporary building for Zoo cats will be destroyed very soon! Reconstruction works starts in the mid April. Nobody from Kyiv administration proposed a new place for a cats. Head of Kyiv administration Vitaliy Klichko promised to help and passed finding solution to his Deputy MP Dmitriy Belotserkovets.
Activists proposed to Kyiv administration the plan of building a Cat Town, where all Zoo cats will live. Volunteers propose to create as a part of Cat Town the first in Ukraine Museum of Cat.
We ask our Western friends and allies for help. Kyiv administration is busy, planning to build some profitable construction on the cats land. Officials ignore our cry.
Please help us to fight for the rights of Free Cats of the Kyiv Zoo! Write the letter to Viltaiy Klichko and ask him to built Cats Town in the Kyiv Zoo. See the example below. E-mail of Kyiv city government administration: [email protected]
Dear Mr. Klichko!
Recognizing your worldwide reputation, we appeal to you with a petition to facilitate a solution in favor of Kyiv zoo cats!
In connection with the Kyiv Zoo reconstruction the building inhabited by more than 50 cats is planned for demolition. A new place to accommodate these animals is still not allocated.
The “Zoo Cats” are under the care of a civil society organization Independent Journalists Union “Nature First”. Almost all the cats are neutered and vaccinated against rabies; they daily receive fresh high quality food and are periodically examined by a veterinarian.
The cats are supported by charitable contributions from Ukrainian and foreign citizens.
We, the activists, suggest a simple and mutually beneficial solution: a permanent enclosed place should be allocated for the cats on the Zoo territory to host the “Cat Town” entertainment and education center. It will feature a cat café and the first in Ukraine Museum of Cats. This will save the animals’ lives, create a cozy spot for visitors, increase the revenues of the Kyiv Zoo and add an attractive highlight to Kyiv image.
The Zoo territory currently covers 34 hectares, most of it being dilapidated. It is absolutely possible to find a place for the animals that were born and grown up there, out of the respect to animals that are now being integrated in the urban ecosystem.
During your visit to the Zoo in autumn 2016 you reassured the volunteers that there will be enough place for the cats and the matter will be solved in the favor of our cause. It’s now time to fulfill your promise!
We appeal to you to facilitate positive resolution of this matter! The supporters of our project from entire Ukraine, as well as from Great Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Israel, USA are looking forward to your response.
Sincerely,
(your name)
